The Skeleton Key movie story. Set in the dark backwoods just outside of the town of New Orleans, The Skeleton Key stars Hudson as Caroline, a nurse who lives in the house hired to care for an elderly woman's (Rowlands) ailing husband (Hurt) in their home...a foreboding and decrepit mansion in the Louisiana delta. Intrigued by the enigmatic couple and their rambling house, Caroline beings to explore the old house. Armed with a key called the skeleton key that unlocks every door, she discovers a hidden attic room that holds a terrifying and deadly secret. Deep in the marshes and bayous of the southern Louisiana region, a little known culture of strange rites and rituals has existed for generations. For those secure in their skepticism, these practices are easily dismissed as colorful superstition, borne from the crucible of influences from Africa, France, the Caribbean and Spain. But for those who cross the dark threshold into belief, these forces of good and evil are tangible, powerful ... even deadly.
